Tek T5

I have a 40 gal breeder and was wondering if I should get the Tek T5 4x39 fixture or the 6x39 fixture since I want to add sps and clams to my tank. The tank is 36L x 18D x 16H. I don't want to spend more than I have to.

My 65 has the same footprint as your 40. I'm putting 6 over mine. (its obviously deeper) I think 4 would be sufficient for yours. I'm not a lighting expert perhaps someone smarter will chime in

I second that. In my 38g, I was using:

1- 96W 8k daylight bulb
2- 95W VHO Actinics
1- 95 W 50/50 bulb

...and I kept SPS, LPS and softies. With T5's, you will have plenty of light, especially if they are going to be overdriven with a IC660 ballast.

BTW, I like the size of a 40g tank.

Dan

4 it is. Should I upgrade the reflectors since I don't want them overdriven?
Stereomandan I'm in love with the 40 breeder I think it's perfect not too small and not too big. I'm also suprise that alot of people are not doing 40 breeder.

You can give it a try without the new reflectors first, and if it's working out well, then leave it. That is unless you can get a good deal on the reflectors while you are buying the 4 light setup.

I had a 40B with the tek light 6 bulb fixture. I had no problem keeping sps and lps. I ran 3 blue plus, 1 -6500, 2 10k (if memory serves me). I upgraded to a 90 so the tankis no longer running. here is what it looked like when it was setup for a couple months:

I sold it awhile back. I bought it from reefgeek. At the time, they had the best prices.
