Post Does any 1 have experience with coralife xternal pumps?

Hi. I am currently in the developing stages of a 120g reef tank, which I want to do using as little money as possible.
I am planning on transferring my coral, rock, fish, lights etc....
I have a submersible pump which has been doing a decent job running my wet-dry, uv and chiller while still managing to create circulation.
I however had to add 2 power heads for support.

I was thinking of adding a second submersible pump (probably an ocean runner due to cost) , or add a coralife 1090 external pump which is rated at 1,090 gph with 13.1 ft max head while only consuming 80 watts and then due away with the submersible pump. (once again because of cost)

My question is has anyone had experience with these pumps? and which route would you recommend?

I have one, looks like and Iwaki knock off. It moves water and is not too loud nothing special.

I have one if works great but I do think it's loud, I don't know if its quiet compared to other because it’s the only pump that size I've ever had. It defiantly moves water.

Seriously though, I've seen those pumps in action, not my favorite. I would rather go with a panworld or even a little giant.

Opinions differ - if going cheap, I would go Turbo Sea http://www.thatpetplace.com/Products...temdy00.aspxor
OR
Gen X (I think it is the Iwaki spinoff) http://www.premiumaquatics.com/Merch...gory_Code=MAK4

I have used both plus little giant. http://www.thatpetplace.com/Products.../Itemdy00.aspx

I like the little giant the least, runs hot - (at least mine) uses the most power.

I recommend Gen X - price, power consumption and water movement.

I think all 3 are reliable though.

The Coralife ones seem to be just as expensive as the Iwakis. I dont see any savings in any way.

If you're looking for power consumption, look at the Blueline NS series. THeyre about as good as it gets.

My understanding is the Coralife Turbo-Sea pumps ARE Pan-World pumps, just mantufactured by Panworld (aka painted red) for Coralife.

After looking it up, it seems BLUE LINE is PANWORLD. So in reality both of you are recommending the same pump. Also These pumps were designed and built by the former chief engineer from Iwaki-Japan. They feature similar flow rates and head pressure. They offer low noise, and reliablity that have made Iwaki the best magnetic drive pumps available. The PanWorld pumps are even a little more quiet then Iwaki. These pumps also include the Powercord, something iwaki leaves off.

The Blueline is the same thing as the Panworld, the Coralife is not. and the Gen-x which I have never used, I have heard is very loud from a lot of people so I would not go that route either.
thanks
Felix

I use a Gen-x pcx-40 , 1090gph for my chiller.

It works well and it is much quieter than the last little giant I had.

You could use a Eheim 1262 for that 120gal its quiet and can be external or in sump.

How many gallons is it rated for? and do you think I could get by using that one pump with 2 returns and yet still run my refugium, u/v and chiller?
