Skimmer not skimming

Okay, I bought an entire tank setup from a guy, and to the best of my knowledge everything was working properly when he had it. I hooked everything up about a 2 weeks ago, and I have yet to get anything from the skimmer. I have a wet/dry filter sump, could that be cleaning the water enough not to get any skimmate? here is a pic of the skimmer.

it is a splash type skimmer, I'm not sure what brand. The water level is where he marked it when he had it, so I'm confused. I'm going to try and clean everything tomorrow and see if that helps out at all.

Your skimmer looks like it is too high. Your running it externally, when your pump is off, the water should seek a certain level. You want this level to be a little bit 1" maybe 2 above (inside) the riser tube. right now your skimmer will not foam cus it's can't push the water up that high.

Turn off the skimmer, lower it till you can see like 1.5" of water in the tube that goes up, then fire it up and let it run. I think this might be your prob. Not sure, but i think.

Make sure your pump is powerfull enough, but if that came with it you should be ok

As I said before, this is exactly how he had it set up. It was skimming for him, but he left and I can't get in touch with him to find out why it isn't for me. Any more suggestions?

you figure out how to raise the water in the skimmer chamber.

your buddy doesnt need to help you, you need to help you.

this is skimming 101 and your learning how to dail in a skimmer, wheather its a riser pipe a gatevalve or different water levels we as reefers all adjust our skimmers.

now its your turn to learn

Well, it doesn't matter anymore. In the process of trying to raise the water level and clean everything, I broke one of the fittings off. So, now it is pretty much junk. Thanks to everyone anyways.
