A drill and a masonary drill bit. Keep the rock wet while drilling that way dust doesnt go everywhere. Rinse them well before adding them to the aquarium, just to get the junk off from drilling them.

Dremels work great. And make sure when you rinse you use salt water not tap...

I use a dremel when I drill holes or cut up my rocks.

A masonary bit designed for a regular rotary drill, hammer drill and accompanying bits not necessary. Slow rpm = breakage. Just finished a bunch of pillars in my tank. After a couple practice holes, you'll get the hang of it. We're talking live rock here?

Limestone (Calcium Carbonate) is relatively soft, you'll see.

What fittings do you use for the dremel?

Some rock is so soft I've drilled pieces I could not remove from the tank by gouging it with a knife or twisting a small (3/8) steel drilling bit with my fingers. Takes some effort and your fingers will hurt, but it's a great way to mount corals into your base rock in an established tank.
