chiller recommendation

I have a 180 gallon 25 inch tall tank - 2 400w MH lights both with fans but the temp keeps spiking to 88-92 degrees and has wiped out corals and my anemone - i need a recommendation on a chiller - setup is standard sump - or would adding more fans take care of the problem.

i have been using the arctica 1/4 on my 90g and i dont run fans at all...it comes on twice a day for a couple of hours...that's it. i love this thing. here's a bonus feature - evaporation is A LOT less.

i will use the same chiller in my 180g setup - you may want to do the same. the only difference would be that it would come on more often OR you can prevent that by having some fans helping it out a few hours a day.

hope this helps you.

If you have the money, I would recommend a chiller with American compressors (Copeland or Tecumseh) since they will last you a VERY long time. Aqua Logic, TradeWind and West Coast Aquatic use American compressors that I know off hand. I have a AquaLogic that was built in 1993 and it's still running strone.

On the other hand, if you don't want to shell out the money for the mentioned above, the JBJ Artica's are a really good deal.

You'd probably want at least a 1/3 HP chiller.

how about the tecous chillers, how good are they, they are a bit pricey, I will be looking for one for my 120gal, or the current-usa, how are those.

i hav a tecous 1/3 aquachill. it is a fantastic chiller. it also has a uv and a heater built in. rock solid and quiet......steady 77 degrees.
i had an old style teco that i had for about 4 years. i sold it to a guy about 3 years ago and he is still using it. the aquachill is a bit pricey.....but then again so are the corals in my tank.
