I'm already wishing that I had bought a 180 gallon tank, or maybe even a 250. My husband and I have both agreed to work side jobs for extra money to pay for the tank. It's a good thing we don't have any children yet...............

AHHH yes the child. Sorry honey the baby will have to go without diapers this month but not to worry I'll rent a rug doctor as soon as I get paid. Hope it will get those brown and green spots out. OH OH OH I know, we can use the dish towels for diapers. That way I can save on diapers and get those frags I've been wanting. Besides they rinse out well and the dishes can just air dry! There, problem solved! Gotta go now the credit card company is on the phone wondering when they will get their next payment. Oh sorry it was my reefers anonnomys sponsor wondering why I missed the meeting. Quick throw a blanket over the tank and shut off all the lights and equipment he's on his way over and if he sees this stuff Im afraid he'll relapse. Seriously though, pay off the credit card, save your money and buy the stuff you want with cash. That way your not blowing your money on intrest. It's taken me 2 years to buy the stuff i need to get my 55 gal up and running and I'm still not done yet. Gotta get the pump for the fuge yet. Wife is in school and baby's in day care so those things come first. (but I still buy a $15 frag here and ther when I can for my LSP tank. SHHHH if my wife asks I paid $10) GOD HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok I moved just over a year ago and never put any water in 55 Gallon tank. For a year I just had it sitting in the living room empty. I wonted to go SW with it but LFS said I would need over $1500 to do so. Well long story short I shopped around and fond every thing on the list (the list LFS gave me) for under $700. I still need a sump and a skimmer.
The funny part is the week after I set the tank up the wife tells me we are moving. Talk about bad timing. Good news is my new 48" light will look great on top of a new 120 gallon tank. That I can get now. Well I mean as soon as we buy a house to put it in. So plan plan plan you don't want to have a 4 ft light if you want a 6 ft tank. My option are buy New lighting or a tank that mine will fit. OH and now the WIFE wants to open a LFS with dry goods and some small Reef tanks. She has always HATED my tank!! Their has to be something in the salt just has to be. |

" I should just take all the stuff that is in my tank out, and just throw the money in the tank!" T

This is funny.
Snowking that was my worst nightmare. I too plotted and planned, yes, even for a small tank. Actually I have a 30 gallon cube that sat empty for sw for a very long time due to "lighting problems". I realized that a few angelfish would suit me so there they are. The sw went a bit smaller for now... |

You can prob. save more by buying used or finding LR for cheaper. Skip the calc reactor for now and just get the necessities.
I feel you though... this hobby is ADDICTING.

just make sure you buy the right equipment the first time for any larger tank upgrades down the road or you will have to reinvest in more equipment.... I would suggest an ASM protein skimmer. I have an ASM G3 on my 125 gal reef and it is awesome pulling out the gunk...... Just dont go bankrupt in the process

Update folks,
I went to the LFS this weekend and paid out another $600 for LR, salt, test kits, surge protector with built in timers, heater with digital readout....I'm about $2300 into this thing now on my 75g tank. I need to buy lights and some kind of wavemaker for circulation. I don't have a canopy either, now that I think about it................ Questions: I have that plastic bar in the middle of the top of my tank, you know, that hold the glass and lights on there 1) What can I do about this when it comes time to put a good light over the tank? 2) What kind of lighting would look good over this tank? 3) What kind of wavemaker or powerheads should I use? I am interested in the Ocean Motion stuff, but I don't have the first clue how to make something like that even work (what accessories are needed to "Make it Happen"). Just a note, my tank is not predrilled and I have an overflow to my sump. I need lots of help!!! I better go for now, a collection agency is calling wondering when I plan to pay for this stuff.....

I was told to convert from trops to marine. Not be expensive the LFS said. Around £300.00 Ive now exceeded £2000.00. great though isnt it!! lol.
Best move I ever made, the wife turns off the tv to watch the fish. I laugh now in the LFS when someone comes in and asks how much to convert to marine. The guy in the LFS has told me to walk away incase I lose him business. |
