mud vs. DSB

Hi there-

I'm in the process of building a sump/ refugium. I was wondering of what do use for substrate in my refuge. I decided to use both. I’m installing an extra baffle to equally partition the refuge in half. One part mud and the other part DSB. I wanted to use the mud for the biodiversity and the DSB for nitrate breakdown by anaerobic bacteria.
Has anyone ever tried this?
Is it a crazy idea?

I'll appreciate input or any tips.

Thank you,

DJPJ
