More effecient baffles
I have a container within a container sump system, and after much experimenting and tinkering, I have reduced my microbubbles considerably, but still have some that are managing to make it to my return pumps. I have about a 4" gap between one container and another, and I'm thinking that filling it with either live rock or bio balls may help to reduce the remaining bubbles. Does anyone else use rock or balls in there baffling for reducing bubbles, and if so did it help? I'm thinking it may just increase the velocity of the water and thus hindering the deletion of the bubbles. Thanks for any input.

I just switched from a homemade rubbermaid sump (a pic is in my gallery) to a standard 20 gallon. What I ended up doing in my rubbermaid sump was placing a filter sock on the input line to reduce some of the flow. Drilled many tiny holes to allow water to flow from container to container. Then, In the area between my two smaller containers I added LR rubble to help with the microbubbles. Hope that helps!
Microbubbles are a pain Try to stay away from the bioballs, filter floss, etc because it will only add nitrates to the system. Go with the LR. Good luck |
