Current-USA chillers
I just bought a Current-USA Prime 1/10 chiller. It's interesting to note that the box, packaging and instruction manual give no reference to the company's address or location. All correspondence must be sent to their customer service dept. through email. I don't have a problem with this, I just thought it was weird. I unpacked it and set it up. It is really quiet and I think I will like it. I took off the plastic cover and looked inside...all of the components are well mounted and the liquid refrigerant lines and the heat exchanger are all insulated well. I don't see any UL symbol on any of the components so this must mean it hasn't been officially tested. The box states this product is from China, as good of a place to be made as anywhere else I suppose. I just hope that it is a quality product for the long haul. Most chillers can be repaired with off the shelf refrigeration parts. If the compressor is half as good as a $59 Walmart office refrigerator, we will be ok. Those things will work for many years. If anyone has any info on Current-USA's whereabouts or if any of you have experience with this chiller, please share that info with us.

My 1/4 hp Current USA drop-in crapped out about two weeks after the 1-yr warranty period. The titanium drop-in coil developed a pinhole and leaked refrigerant into the tank. No ill effects observed.
The drop-in was an after-thought. I should have gone with a plumbed-in. After hearing (or not hearing) a JBJ on another tank, I ordered the Arctica Titanium 1/4 hp. It is significantly quieter than the Current chiller. I mean significantly. It is only slightly louder than the small beer fridge in my basement. The compressor is nearly silent - the noise is air noise from the fan. JBJ also comes with a two year warranty although given the poor translation of the warranty documents, I'm hoping I don't have to use it. I'm off to see what I can do with Current-USA on the current chiller. They only have a 1 year warranty but it shouldn't crap-out after 13 months.
