Halogen lighting

Has any one ever personally tried halogen lights or seen any reefs with halogen lights?
Im thinking of an alternative because those metal halides are too expensive...

Very bad choice for several reasons:

- Wrong spectrum (around 3k color temp)
- Efficiency which isn't much better than incandescent (15%, vs 35-40% for Fluorescent and HID)
- Huge heat output (see #2)

You won't like the color - it will appear very yellow in your tank. More yellow than a 5K
