What is this?????????
I have tried to find a picture of this thing online and I just can't find one, so I am hoping somone here can help me. Please don't laugh but I have seen at least 3 very small things that look like little bitty jellyfish (only word I can use to describe them) floating in my water then they go back down to the sand. I'm pretty sure they aren't actually jellyfish, I just can't figure out what they are. Any ideas out there?
I also have what looks like about 10 eggs floating together at the top of my tank. I have a bumble bee snail, orange turbo snail, scarlet hermit crab, and 2 blue leg hermits. Would any of these things have laid eggs at the top of the tank or did these come from something that is in my rock? My final question (for now) is about this stuff that looks like cobwebs on parts of my rock. What could this stuff be? THank you in advance for any help with these questions. |

No idea on the jellyfish things.
Snails usually lay eggs on the glass in large numbers, so not sure either. The cobweb stuff is probably the nets of vermetid snails.

I did a little research on the snails you mentioned and I think that is probably what I have. Do they only come out at night because I've never seen one. Also, are they bad?
I do have one other question about something in my tank. I am assuming these are some sort of worm, but I don't know if they are bad or not. I have a few things coming out of my rock that look like really small, burgundy feather dusters. I know feather dusters are not exactly small, but this is what the end of these things look like. Any ideas on what they may be and if they are bad or not? This place is so great and I have learned so much already! Thank you for any help I can get! |

Going to need pictures It is possible that you can have small medusae (usually hydromedusae), but without any pics, it is hard to say.

Feather dusters can be small. My tank has hundreds of them, no bigger that a dime around.

Here is a very good site to ID some critters in your tank. It gives some info on wether they are good or bad as well. Have a look:

Thanks for all the info. I checked out the site posted above and now I can't decide if the little brownish burgundy things are small feather dusters or these stinging hydroid things I read about. I will try to post some pics but they are very small.

Well, I was able to get a decent picture but I had to shrink it so much to be able to put it in my gallery here that I don't think you can see them well at all. They are on the rock above the bumble bee snail, sort of to the left. (looks like little brown lines in this small picture) If anyone knows a way I can post the full size image, please let me know. THanks!

Yah your pic is way to little to tell exactly what you have. Here is a link to help you post larger pics:

I hope this works and that you can tell a little better what I'm talking about. If you look above the bumblebee snail, a hair to the left, you should see what looks like brownish lines on the rock. You can't see it in the pic, but they have feathery type things coming out at the top of them. If anyone has any ideas on what these things are, I would greatly appreciate your help. Thanks!! |
