Are the sponge filters in the AGA overflows necessary?
What are the pros and cons of the sponge filters in the AGA aquarium overflows. I have to clean them every week and they do get dirty but could be a nitarte bacteria factory.
Should I exchenge them for the new AGA Durso overflows? http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Produc...&N=2004+113794 Any opinions? |

I don't use sponges on mine. They didn't come with them first of all ans have to be cleaned on a very regular basis. So I vote no.

I have 2 tanks. One with a sponge and one without. As long as you clean the sponge weekly, It's good to have on there. On the tank with the sponge, My skimmer is tuned down a little more , and I get less detris in the sump.

The ones that come with sponges are the Amirical overflows.

It is an AGA aquarium (older model) and the overflow used to be called Corner Overflow. Now they call them Megaflow with the new design without a sponge.
See picture below (I have two on each back corner of my 180g AGA Aquarium). ![]() |
