crab id please
this guy showed up in my tank a few days ago.
Looks similar to an emerald, but brown, smaller claws and with more hairy legs. The only corals that are in my tank right now are some mushrooms and a few button polyps that came in on some of my rock. The tank has only been set up about 1.5 months. I would like to eventually start stocking some lps and sps in my tank. IS THIS GUY REEF SAFE? ![]() |

thats your common Gorilla Crab, which is what most people call a hairy crab. it is a Xanthid Crab, but i cant tell the species. Xanthid crabs are not reef safe. give it time and it will start eating corals, or anything else it can.

Seems that the overall consensus is the same. Assuming i can find/catch him this evening, he'll will be relocating to the refugium. Hope he has his bags packed.

Well I finally managed to capture my gorilla crab tonight. I skewered a piece of shrimp on a stick and teased him a bit with it before the lights went out. I then placed it in the sand a few inches from his hole and when the lights went out he couldn't resist. I then swooped in with my net and grabbed him. He now resides in my sump. thanks everyone
