Return pump for a 90gal?

I'm getting a 90gal All glass with Megaflow. I was thinking Eheim 1260? I can't afford to add heat to my system as seems to happen with Mag's. What do you guys think?

How much static head? Assuming the typical 4', I'd go for an Eheim 1250 or two Maxi-Jet 1200's.

Just bought a 1260 for my 92 corner. Asked the same question and this choice was the consensus. Good Luck, Bill

So it looks like the 1250 is the choice. How would one plumb 2 maxijet 1200's? I happen to have a few of those lying around....

3/4" tubing fits over the outlet perfectly. Each MJ1200 would have its own dedicated return line. This setup (at 4' of head) will give you 170 gph (enough to keep the display surface of proteins) and consume a scant 26 watts.

Isn't a megaflow like 600gph though?

It is but that doesn't mean that you need 600 gph through your skimmer/sump loop. All you really want is enough water moving through the loop to carry proteins and junk from the surface down to the skimmer. Provided the sump in the low point in the system (very typical), evaporation will occur there rather than the display. This usually takes around 1.5 tank turnovers to accomplish. More flow than that is just more, it makes the skimmer less effective, consumes more electricity, and creates the possibility of microbubbles.

If you want to save some money go with an oceanflow 2500. I have the 3500 and its too much. It is very quiet and lower wattage than comparable mags. I like it better than the mags ive owned.
