RODI system trouble

I recently purchased a used spectrapure RODI system. It is the 4 stage, Spectrapure Maxpure RO/DI system. I hooked it up to my facet and got 10psi pressure.

The system came with a small booster pump so I figured that was broken. I went and purchased a aquatec 6800 booster pump and hooked it up post sediment filter and pre-carbon filter. With the 6800 booster pump on, I still get 10psi pressure. I bought a 1.5mm allen wrench to adjust the pump which is supposedly rated for 40-120 adjustable psi and there was still no increase.

I tried running the system without any of the any of the filters, RO or DI, nothing in there and still get 10psi on both of the booster pumps.

Before I go contacting the guy I bought the booster pump from, could both of them be broken or could something else be wrong? I can feel both of them running when they have power, neither makes much noise at all though. This is my first RODI system so I'm not sure what to expect noise wise from them.

any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

This is a picture of the exact one I bought.

This was the setup of what I bought, can somebody mark this up with where I should place the booster pump? Also should the booster pump adjustment screw be all the way in or all the way out for the most flow?

seems to me like you should post this in the spectrapure sponsors forum. You'll get more answers there.

pretty sure that carbon should be before the membrane as well as the booster pump should be before any filters.
now, are you sure you have only 10psi at the tap??? seems like there something really wrong with that.

Have you looked at the possibility the pressure gauge is defective? Are you getting permeate?

Crab - You scared me for a minute. I thought Spectrapure might have hired a system designed from an ebay retailer! In comparing your photo to your graphic - you have some of the stages mis-labeled.

On the far left you have a sediment filter
In the center you have a carbon block
On the right you have DI resin

Ideally you should configure your system so you have a sediment filter ahead of the booster pump. In your case you could put it after the carbon block and before the membrane.

As a potential quick fix, while your system is running, place your thumb over the waste water output for about 20 seconds. You should see hear a different sound from the pump - the pump may just be cavitating due to trapped air. Sometimes you can get the pumps to "bite" with a momentaty restriction in the waste line.

Heres a picture from another RO/DI suppliers website (The Filter Guys) that may help a little with the sequence the filters and pump should go in. It should be the same with the Spectrapure as to where the pump goes. I have a 8800 pump on mine and its up at the 90psi mark when running. I only had about 30 PSI on the water line I had mine hooked to and added the pump. It actually shows a 6 stage filter but the pump mounting is the same before your unit.

The first stage in the picture is actually a sediment filter before the pump.
