popeye question

i know this is not in the right section. but i was not sure how often the disease side of this form was traveled. my black occ. clown has popeye. can anybody point me to a treatment. he is currently in a q-tank for a 6 week quaratine. he is also in hypo (.009), if i remeber correctly popeye is really not deadly in most cases. my q-tank is 20 gallons. i will be doing a 50% water change today. any help would be cool. thanks

I had a black saddle back clown with the same problem. It is an injury to the eye of the fish and best to left to heal on it's own. Just continue feed and make sure it is eating, and keep water quality up. This is what worked for me.

i believe that there are treatments as i have a clarki that has this as well. i have left it alone and had no other effects on the other tank mates.

If it is being caused by a bacterial infection medication can be dosed in your tank if it was caused by an abrasion it will heal on its own. In the second case some people add quite a lot of epsom salt to the tank as it seems to speed up recovery. Have a look at wetwebmedia under the satwater fish disease section and look up pop eye and epsom salts.

I have a pigmy cherub angel (has gotten pop eye twice, same eye). Set up a QT & treated with Maracyn from Mardel labs (tablets turns the water a yellowish color), treated for 5 days & fish is back to normal.
Here's a link with a pic of the Maracyn (you can get it at any LFS or online).

Check this link for more info on popeye

Hope this helps

A yellow-tail blue damsel in my tank got pop-eye. It never spread to any of the other fish and went away on its own after about a week. The only thing I did was fewer feedings to try and keep the bio-load down.

The maracyn is between $14 to $18 (1 box has 16 tablets, 1 tablet treats 20 gal), the treatment lasts only 5 days. Maracyn treats fin & tail rot, popeye & body fungus.
Since your clarki has it on both eyes (don't use a net to catch it, the net might cause more damage to the eye, scratch it or even burst), use a container PITA. At least your clarki is eating (good sign on the road to recovery), usually those fish that get it on both eyes don't get to eat as much & may starve.
Hope this helps you out
