time for fish??
After three months of being VERY patient, a pair of tomato clowns caught my eye at the LFS. I was wondering if its to soon to add them or if I should go for it?? They seem to be in good health, and my paramaters have finally stabilized.
Tank stats are: 30 gal. Oceanic tank, Eclipse bio filter, Seaclone 150 protien skimmer, 20 pounds of lr,and Catfish Lighting 96 watt ballast with a 50/50 bulb. Right now the only tank inhabitants are 2 bubble tip anemones,an assortment of snails, and 2 pepermint shrimp. All of which seem to be doing very well. Any advice would be welcome as I'm new to the hobby. Thanks! |

i would say go for it if this is the fish you really want...
by the way, i have the same tank... although it is my first REEF tank, this is the first tank i ever had that i don't feel the need to upgrade to a different tank... i just love the size and shape of it... |

If your Nitrite is 0 then I say yes but slowly. Ammonia spikes can be nasty. Also, If you are keeping BTA's, you might want to think about upgrading the lighting since they are photosynthetic animals and will benefit from higher intensity lights. Do check out some of the mods for beefing up the seaclone. Performance will be much better and you will be much happier. Last but not least, Welcome to RC. We look forward to seeing pictures of your tank.

Thanks for the replies guys! Sorry it to so long to get back, its been a very busy month for us.
I like the looks of mine to Flip. Although I think ours is a little older. The only reason I say this is because its a hex front not a bow front, but my wife picked it up at a garage sale for 35 bucks so im not gonna complain. Thanks for the heads up jeff. I've done all the mods to the seaclone that I can, and your right. It works soooo much better now. Thanks! ; ) As for the lighting...well I had to take one of the bulbs out for now. I think the 2x 96 watt 50/50's were to much for a new tank. Once I dropped it down to just one 96 watter the whole tank seemed to do better. Thanks for the warm welcome and all the great info!

I forgot to add. Both Beth and Trent shot down the idea of getting some tomato clowns.....I guess they both want some "nemo's" for the tank. Sigh....
Either way, thanks again for the help guys. |
