those are bristle worms Very beneficial to the tank so dont take em out (unless you come across a 5 foot long one which a surprisingly high number of people just on here have done lol)

Don't touch them without wearing latex gloves. Wear gloves when handling rock. If you do get stung, hold offended finger under hot water and soak in vinegar.

They're model citizens, otherwise.

its hard to describe...i would say to do it once just so you can figure it out..but i gues that would be mean lol

While it doenst exactly hurt, it is not a pleasing fealing thats for sure. its almost like you dont notice it at first, and then when you rub your finger on something, you feel the little bristles stuck in there like splinters...for me it always itches and i can never actually find exactly where the bristle in my finger is...so i just itch it all day trying to get it out lol. The water does help, tho i've never tried the vinegar.

they will sting but its not a venomous, its just an irritant. they can be very painful, but not life threatening! if you do get stung, remove the setae (bristles) with some tape. then soak the area in some hot water, or vinegar. this will help the pain, and the vinegar will disolve the remaining setaes.
