what size tank?

What size tank would the recommend for...

Kaudern's Cardinal/Pterapogon kauderni (4)
Black Tang/Zebrasoma rostratum (1)
Wide Banded clownfish/Amphiprion Latezonatus (2)
Green Mandarin/Synchiropus splendidus (2)
Hi Fin Red Banded Goby/Stonogobiops nematodes (4)

I was thinking around a 250liter tank.

I would say probably a 75 - 90? I am not exactly sure. As big as you can afford and have the space is probably best though . More options by far.

I thought 75gal would be min for the Tang, but I was looking at a 100gal tank. Mainly I want to breed these fish except for the Tang.

Also in a year or two I want to add a Moorish Idol or two, so I was thinking a 90gal tank would be good.

imo i'd go for at least a 100. The tang will be quite a lot plus those 2 manderins...they're gonna need to be added at least a year after the tank is fully established to allow for a full pod population. And you may wanna reconsider having 2...they go thru a ton of pods. I read some statistics on them somewhere (cant remember where tho but it was a very interesting read) and the amount of pods they eat per year in POUNDS is incredible...(again...cant remember the actual numbers...but it surprised me). With 2 of them in a 75, you'll more than likely end up having to buy pods to feed them...which is very expensive (at least 17 bucks a bottle...a couple/few times a month...lotta money in the end )

But if you were to take out the 2 manderins i'd say you could swing it w/an 80...i'm not familiar w/the black tang, but if its around the size of the yellows or blues, an 80 would probably be ok. (Dont get me wrong tho...a bigger tank is ALWAYS better specially for tangs)

I am only getting the Mandarins if I can get them on frozen... Ill have a 10gal for just raising Pods for them, a 400 liter tank works out to be around 105 gals with around 150 LBS of LR and a 150 liter sump with a 100 liter refugium.

But other than that as I am going slightly bigger could i do this...

Kaudern's Cardinal/Pterapogon kauderni (5)
Black Tang/Zebrasoma rostratum (1)
Wide Banded clownfish/Amphiprion Latezonatus (2)
Green Mandarin/Synchiropus splendidus (2)
Hi Fin Red Banded Goby/Stonogobiops nematodes (5)
Moorish Idol/Zanclus canescens (1)
Flaming Prawn Goby/Discordipinna griessingeri (3)
Royal Gramma Basslet/Gramma loreto (2)
Achilles Tang/Acanthurus achilles (1)
Clown Tang/Acanthurus lineatus (1)

I will also have 2x10gal and 3x5gal rearing tanks for the fry of the...

Cardinals
Clowns
Mandarins
Gobys
Basslets

But the only problem I can see is the Tangs eating the new fry, but I am going to have around 125LBS of LR for them to hide in with corals and a anemone.

I'd stay with the 2 smallest tangs and drop the others, and for sure drop the idol...the idols are not for beginners imo. Pretty tricky feeders (sometimes worse than manderins)

I'm not sure if you can keep multiples of the same gobies and whatnot...i'll let someone else reply to that as im not sure...but a lot of fish in this hobby arent compatible w/their own kind (unless they're paired up)

But for sure only keep the 2 smallest tangs out of those (not a tang person yet really...so i'm not great on all the dif. types and their needs) and drop the idol.

Having 2 tang-sized fish will be all you can keep in a 105 (as far as fish that size)...the other tangs and idol would proly go crazy w/aggression.

Regarding the Idol, I am going to add him after 2 years after the tank cycle. So their will me a stable tank for it.

Regarding the Clowns, I am leaning over the the gold stripe maroons for I cant find any wide bands ATM, but if i cant have Maroons in my display could i put them in my regugium? I would love to get a mated pair. the tank for the maroons would be 20gals> could i keep two pairs of clowns with two anemones in a 105 gal tank? would their be enough space for territory. If the maroons are to aggressive could i do this.

Maroons in refugium
Wide band and black onyx in the display?

I do not think the other fish will appreciate the idol being introduced to their 2 year old world. I am not sure a 100 gallon tank is big enough for an idol alone?

Two pairs of clowns is always risky IMO, especially if their maroons!

Black Tang and Achilles may be tricky, though different Genius..they are both black and Achilles tend to be aggressive [and not very hardy for the most part-not a good beginner fish]
Clown Tangs are MEAN, and they too have a dismal survival rate.
Moorish Idols need to be left in the ocean. Only the very experienced aquarist should attempt these fish.

If you leave out the Clown Tang and Moorish Idol...I'd say you need a 6' tank at least.. A 125 minimum IMO..
Add those fish back in, I'd go 200 gallon.

Wide Banded clownfish/Amphiprion Latezonatus (2)
Black Onyx Clown/ (2)
Green Mandarin/Synchiropus splendidus (2)
Hi Fin Red Banded Goby/Stonogobiops nematodes (5)
Moorish Idol/Zanclus canescens (1)
Flaming Prawn Goby/Discordipinna griessingeri (3)
Royal Gramma Basslet/Gramma loreto (2)

IMO, If you eventually want all four of those big fish I would go a lot bigger than a 125.
a 125 Would be fine for the Achilles and Black Tang
