Need opinions on setup.

I have posted the following question on two forums. The replies I got from one of the forums say using the LR for a predator free biofilter is great. Replies on the other forum say not to use it. It will just become a nutrient holder and collect debris. I plan on using a filter sock or poly filter on water entering this area. Here is the question:

I am downgrading to a 144gal from my 500gal. I currently have between 1000-1100 lbs of LR. I was going to put around 200-250lbs in my new display and put the rest in a 300 gal fuge (if it will fit). Is this a waste? Would approx 200-250 lbs in the sump be more than enough? Is all the extra LR a waste? I plan on having a small fish load in the tank and focus mainly on coral. Just wanted some opinions on at what point does it become overkill.

As long as you are getting good water flow through the rocks, It shouldn't be a waste. 200-250 will be enough as long as it will fit. More rocks = More Bio-Filtration
