Divided fw AND sw tank???

I just had a strange idea. How about a tank that is both fresh and salt water? Let's say a 300gl tank with a divider in the middle.... Has anyone ever seen or heard about one? I wonder how the fish would act near the divider

Never heard of one, but I see this as being a recipe for disaster personally. Either side has a problem and you kill everything you own. Accidently mess up on a water change and you've killed half your tank. Not to mention FW look ugly (imo) and would detract from the vibrant colors and interesting personality of saltwater fish. Also is the problem of light.

Personally, I wouldn't do it.

I would rather put a fowlr on one half and a reef on the other. Or just make it one big reef.

Or biggre, more aggresive fish on one side, and smaller fish on the other.

Hello I think if the divider was black then light wouldnt be a problem that way none would go into the "other"tank right? I had a small fw tank sitting beside my 55 gal reef for a long time with no ill effects. It would kinda be the same thing right? And I never messed up on a water change you could easy tell between the sw and fw. You would just have to make sure the divider was sealed real good and reienforced somehow I would think. If you ever do it you would have to post pics Id love to see it . Bll

Might be easier and cheaper just to butt 2 150 gallon tanks together. Then you eliminate the chance of the divider falure. But, FW itsn't as nice to look at as SW, IMO. Maybe a FW Planted with Discus fish and then reef tank might be nice.

Mangrove salt swamp/refugium on one side and planted river freshwater on the other could be could.... and a horrific PITA. I'd definately just go with separate tanks. 2 150's would be cheaper anyway.

Although an interesting idea, I agree that this spells disaster eventually. Just think of the ramifications of a small pin leak.

Yeah...I was also considering all those negatives myself - like I said...just a strange idea I thought of and was wondering if it had been attempted by someone with the drive
