New Water - Do I run carbon?

Setting up a new tank. FOWLR. Do i run carbon in the filter. If not, anything besides media?

You don't need to with a fresh tank. You don't need the filter media either. The live rock will act as your filter. You may want to run a skimmer of some type. ARe you going to have a sump? How big of a tank?
