Quick Question PLEASE!!
Hey everyone,
I've had a 175w 14000K bulb over my reef for a while now. I'v noticed that there has been no real visible growth of my corals and no coraline has grown on my rocks. My question is would putting a 10000K improve growth? Thanks, BigRay |

Iwasaki 6500K lights set the standard for a few years as far as growth. In other forums, I have heard comments that the lower Kelvin ratings are better for growth. Of course there are many other variables at work here. Water quality, circulation or current, Ca and dKH to name only a couple. If the water is pristine and all the elements needed for growth then I would definitely recommend you trade down in color. As a side note, generally, the higher the K rating on a bulb, the lower the PAR or usable energy the light is capable of transfering to the coral. Therefore, less energy for growth ! IF you dont like the color of the 10K lights, you may entertain the thought of supplementing them with some actinics (T5's would be my recommendation)
FWIW
