Catalina Aquarium on eBay?
I am looking to start a 120RR project and saw a retro kit by Catalina Aquarium on eBay. I have searched about the 1st 100 threads in this forum, but have not found any info on this company or their lights. They have a 97% + positive feedback rating. So here's the queston:
Does anyone know anything about this company and the quality of their lights? The retro that I'm looking at is an 8 bulb T5 with individual reflectors, three power cords and three switches, and all bulbs (4 Aquasun and 4 Actinics). It is run with a Workhorse ballast. For the price, I don't think I could make this thing myself. They are selling it for $300.00. Sounds too good to be true: Is it? |

Two words: Stay Away.
Try a search for them. Seriously, there are countless numbers of people that will never touch their stuff again. You will get some that have had good luck, but they are far fewer than those who have had problems. Their bulbs are junk quality (I know first hand about their PC bulbs). I personally would save up a few more dollars and get a Tek fixture. |

Thanks Ken...
I thought I'd remembered seeing something about them (not to pleasant as I recall), but couldn't find anything here....as usual, the search engine here was busy I was originally going to do a Tek fixture, but thought for the price I'd inquire about the other... Thanks again, Liz |
