Penductor question

I am always looking for ways to disperse my flow more. I was wondering if penductors would help on my closed loop. I don't really care about increasing flow as much as just dispersing it more.

I have a Ehiem 1262 on my closed loop and I know it isn't a pressure rated pump but my question was whether I could benefit or not from having 2x 1" penductors on my return bulkheads. Currently I have locline split into Y's with flare nozzle to point some down the back and the rest near the surface.

I have a seio620 for additional flow and then there is always my return from the sump, but the 620 is grossly overrated for flow I think but suits my needs for now until my new Tunze nanostream gets here next week which is 660gph and probably a more accurate number for less power

Anyway, what do you guys think about the penductors or will the work my pump over with the reduction at the tips before the flare and make me loose flow instead.

Thanks

i would also be interested in hearing some input on penductors. do they create backpressure?

You might find yourself quite disappointed with the penductor.

In order for the penductor to work properly you would need a pretty hefty pump to drive it as these things require pressure and lots of it.

Yeah I know they require a lot of pressure... just wondering if anyone had run them without...

Also is there anything to put on return lines... (mine are actually 3/4" for the closed loop... that disperses flow more like a stream pump?

without the pressure pump, the penductor won't really do much I'm afraid.

Your best bet for that tank is using a "stream" like powerhead to get that kind of flow.

A few options are available

SEIO
Maxijet-stream mod
Tunze nano

I already have a SEIO and switching that to a tunze nano...

but still using my closed loop as well... will just stick with the locline for now I guess until I have time to fabricate something...

I have a genx pcx 55 pressure rated pump, and was told would be perfect for penductor use at 4' head. From what I've read, if used properly, they're great at dispersing flow.

Yeah... I only have about 8 inches of head with my 1262 which is why I wondered if it could handle pushing them... I guess I could trade it out for a pressure rated pump :/ But it is so quiet especially mounted with .5" rubber spacers

I guess I could order one and see what happens with it.

I just wanted to check with people and see if they had used them without a pressure rated pump and seen that they decrease flow dramatically... If it stayed about the same that would be fine... but worried about the increase in back pressure in the long term.
