Its official, my seio m1100's wont restart.

well its official. i dont wanna hate on taam seio pumps but the whole restarting issue is true. i turned them off and they wont restart whatsoever. i havnt used them but for like 10 hours.
my warranty with marinedepot is long gone but im sure their is a one year warranty with the actuall company for seio powerheads.

does anyone know how i can get in touch with the people from seio powerheads soo i can replace my m110's . they could just be bad pumps im sure but they do not restart and i dont wanna waste a hundred dollars

thanx yal

Are the pumps clean? Most stories i hear about seios not starting is due to them not being cleaned regularly.

I shut mine off every day and they have always started right back up. Something just doesn't seem right if you have two of them doing this at the same time. Do they make any noise at all?

Dont return it back to them; youll spend more in shipping and the $5 fee.

Instead, open them up and remove the impeller/magnet. You will probably findout that the magnet is cracked. Go to any of your favorite online fish supply retailers and buy a replacement impeller for $10-15.

I had the magnets crack on both of my 1500's from doing nothing but restarting them.

Replaced 2 other Seios with 1 Vortech, and plan to replace my other 2 with a second Vortech once they begin shipping them with wireless controller capabilities.

One of my 1100s had the impeller crack and is out of commission. My other 1100 sometimes doesn't restart, but if I give the impeller a spin with a toothpick it starts right up. Irritating, but tolerable.

did you try manually starting it? My 620 often doesnt restart, so i spin the impeller to give it a kick start and it works every time. I use a shish kabob stick. note that i have mine set up tunze style, so its pretty easy to access the impeller.

So far, I've seen tons of seio failures as well as Vortech failures. Go ugly early and avoid the rush. Tunze may cost more(your buddies busting on you for a fat chick) but they are reliable (you still got laid while they are j---ing off)

i also here the longer you have them, the better they get at restarting, is it a PITA, yes, but the astetics, flow, and price of pump you cant beat that.

I have two Seio 1100's and neither start on their own after unplugging. Both have to be manually started by giving the impeller a manual nudge/spin and then they start up and keep running until the power is cut.

As said before, a pain but tolerable for now until I take the time to mod some maxi-jets into maxi-streams.

The cheap tunze nano streams cant be run on wavetimers either, and I wouldn't be surprised to see that after time, they have a significantly higher failure rate than other tunze's.

I think it is just something that occurs due to the design, which is a result of keeping costs down, such as what Seio did.

Also, to chrisd1009, the issue with vortechs were first generation models. Significant modifications have been passed through the line to improve the pump. It is criminal to even compare Seio issues with Vortech issues. Vortech bends over backwards to fix any minor or major issue you may percieve or actually experience in your powerheads. The same cannot be said for Seio.

When I initially purchased my Vortech, I had issues with the two sides slipping. I sent an email to their support team, and within a couple of hours (at 10pm!!!) I was already responded to, and new parts were being shipped out to me FREE (I didnt pay shipping or anything). Since then the pump has worked as advertised. These new parts now come standard with sold vortechs.

soo i tried the poking it with a stick method. IT worked! they should write on the box. If the pump is not restarting, poke it with a stick.

lol im jk, i love the powerhead and the company, but just not the restarting factor

TAMM has always had complaints about their pumps and other products. Their rio pumps were somewhat improved awhile back but many still fail.
