You May Say I'm a Dreamer.
Imagine there's no ich. No need for copper treatment or hyposalinity. What a wonderful world it would be. Anyhow, I was just informed by my LFS that ich can continue to live on for all eternity in my system since I have LR. Is this true? Do I need to boil, cook, sautee my LR to kill every last ich profanity removed I thought that if I left my tank fishless that the ich would die off in 6-8 weeks. I didnt know that I had to also remove all LR or inverts for that matter. Can someone enlighten this noobie. Thanks!

But you're no the only one. I hope someday they'll join you...
No, the parasite (per definition) has to have a host eventually, otherwise, they cannot live independently indefinitely. IMO. ...and the ocean will live as one...da di da da

Yeah, eventually the other forms of ich will germinate/morph into the form that needs to feed off of a host, and if the tank is fishless, will starve to death. Keep the faith, Cappin'!

yeh.. lfs is wrong wrong wrong.. if your tank is fallow for a few months they will all die. they can only live for so long in your tank/LR until they require a host.

Thanks to everyone for their valuable advice. This is an awesome reservoir of knowledge and support! I'm in the midst of preparing my Q-tank for my next fish aquistion. Since this tank had housed a fish that had expired from ich I emptied the contents of the Q-tank and cleaned it with RO water and some vinegar. I also need to clean the hang on filter, heater, etc. that was in this tank before I can return to the Q-tank for use. Now to the long awaited question. I know you are suppose to use aged water from your display tank to fill the Q-tank. However, would it be okay to use this water since the display tank's water also contains ich?? I was also going to use a sponge filter from the display tank's sump for the Q-tank's biofiltration. Since I plan on using hypo on my new fish in the Q-tank, shouldnt this take care of any ich that may be transferred from the display tank? Any advice and suggestions are welcomed. Thanks!
