Best creature for eating detrimus on top of sand???
What is the best creature for eating detrimus(poopy) that is accumulating on the top of the sandbed??? Maybe a Brittle Star???I have a Diamond Goby that sifts the sand, but he obviously is leaving the poop.

Bristleworms. They get it inside the rocks in tunnels and on the sand. They break it down to a very fine dust that can easily be consumed by corals or sandbed bacteria. They will sting when handled: use gloves. Your local fish store should give you a nice selection for a dollar, if not for free. And if you have 2, you will soon have more.

Amphipods. I saw one HUGE amphipod (almost 1cm long) eat about 20 poop balls dropped by my urchin - all in one go...

That's the weird part. I have had my tank running for 2 months and haven't seen one Bristleworm. I have LR and you would think I would have had one appear so far. I will look into my LFS selling me some.

I guess we shouldn't complain about the bristleworms. I haven't seen pods either. I don't have a fuge yet, but plan on getting one soon.

I recently added 8 bristleworms and know that i had at least one before that. I added them weeks ago and have only cought a glimpse of one of them since, i only have 20 pounds of live rock. Chances are you might have some and just never have seen them.

get a flashlight and look in your tank at night when the lights are out! its a whole other world in there at night. you'll see things that will make you not want to ever stick your hands back in your tank. i didnt think i had any bristleworms either untill i did this, i seen at least 10-15. if i have that many then i know there are more and will be more to come.

I have moonlights and it is hard to see anything ever with a red flashlight. I think I will cut them off completely and see what comes out.
Haven't thought of a Cucumber. |
