Pump/ Head questions... Please Help

When measuring head... does this only apply to vertical?

Situation:
My tank is located 10 feet from my chiller stand.

The tank is a 60 gallon cube.

I have a custom made sump and there is no room for an external pump.

I'd like to run as few pumps as possible, ideally one as a dedicated return and the other to pump water to the chiller and back and if possible back into the tank (which adds another 5 ft of vertical "Head") as a back up if the primary pump takes a dukie. Worse case I'd like it to simply return to the sump.

Here lies the problem... will the 10 ft. to and from actually be what is referred to as 20 ft. of "Head" or because of it being horizontal is this different?

I know the pump still has to push the water through but it is not as hard as pumping water vertically. Mag seems to have the strongest submersible pump and none will do the 20+ feet.

HELP!!
