Very confused (dKH ?)

my alk was 8.5 three days ago, i did a 25% water chnage yesterday with reefcrystals and measured alk today and it was only 6.0, i dont see how that is possible, i am using salifert and i tested it like 8 times to makes sure and it kept coming up as 6.0, i have a yellowe fiji leather, which i know hate low alk levels but looks great so i dont know wats up

Since reefcrystals are high in calcium, it's possible.

Here's a good article.

Yeah, could be the salt mix is low in alk. I use IO, make by the same company as Reef Crystals and the alk and calcium are both low in the mix. I have to suppliment when I do changes.

Reef Crystals Calcium is in the 360 to 380 level and Alkalinity is as High as IO in the 9 to 10 dkH level but there could always be a batch out of specs.
So unless you had a high spike in consumption due to abiotic precipitation I would recomend to perpare a batch with the same salt and test the new mix for alkalinity.
