levels out of control
hey all, just got back from vacation for over thanksgiving and i came back to a tank that has hair algae growing EVERYWHERE and ALL my corals are shut down and closed up (even my xenia and mushrooms are closed up) just a little backround on the tank it's a 50 gallon with a 175 watt MH, and 1-55 watt compact flourescent . with a regal tang, pair of tomato clowns, comet (marine betta), skunkback pseudo., and a diamond goby. corals include: xenia, mushrooms, frogspawn, zoos, green star polyp, and some button polyps. i did a water test and my results were ammonia-0, nitrate-5ppm, nitrite-0, p.h 7.7 (not quite sure how that happened), and phosphate 2.5ppm (not sure either) is there a good way to fix the phosphates and the p.h so i don't start losing corals, and where did all that hair algae come from???? i use RO/DI water

Overfeeding while you were gone maybe? I'd pull as much as I could and do a major water change to start out.

i would start running some phosphate remover, skim wet, and feed just enough. If you have chaeto bump up its lighting schedule. Like above i would guess overfeeding while you were gone, water changes will help you out too.
