How to control green star polyp?
My tank started out as mostly LPS.
These days I mostly try to acquire SPS and it results in a problem with GSP spreading. How do I control it? I have a 10"x10" area. Can I Joe's Juice it? Maybe an outer 0.5" a week or so? Any ideas or experiences? Thanks

Frag them. Just cut them with a sharp blade, peel it off the rock and there you have it. Or, if you get frustrated, just rip them.

Use smaller pieces of LR to stop growth ...once smaller pieces of LR is covered with GSP...remove...sell back to LFS or your local forum for frags or store credit...

iF you put a rock over it, it wont get any light and that will prevent its poylps from opening and it will slowly die.
just a thought |

I've had fingers grow off of main rock...I've cut the fingers off and super glued to LR rubble...and traded frags/store credit...mine is super green and easy to get rid of...like a junky anything to support my habit.

Yeah i agree, just keep fragging it untill you get enough credit to get something good from your LFS.

Trading it to your LFS would be a great idea, you might as well make some money from the stuff.

While fragging it off to make a buck is a good idea I still have the problem with it covering a large area.
Perhaps I worded my question poorly but I need to get rid of it completely or at least reduce the area it covers. Does it peel off the rock? Can I kill it? I think shading it will be too slow.

Ripping, peeling, etc did not work for me. That stuff grew in every nook within the rocks. i took brushes and scrubbed like craze. I dipped it in a kalk slurry, and it still grew back. I took some great advice from another reefer here on RC who showed me a picture of what GPS can do to a sps tank. After I saw the picture, I removed all of my rocks with GPS and have been cooking the rocks since then. (I did keep one covered rock in the sandbed of the tank where it could not spread to the main rockwork).

mine will not grow near my capnella or my mushrooms. I have kept them contained to one rock by strategic placement of the above corals.

I've got mine in the corner of my tank where I can beat the livin' bejesus out of it everytime I clean the glass. That slows it down.

I have a same problem but it is not GSP. It is an ugly brown star polyp which cannot be peeled off easily.
