old salty what did you switch to?
What I mean by that .. If I decide to switch (have to buy new salt mix i'm just about out) should I do smaller water changes .. or a normal (for me) 40 gallon change?

But is IO most popular because it is best, or because it is cheapest and has been around the longest? Just curious.

That is hard to say, but I know cost isn't a deciding factor for me. The fact that it has a long track record of success is a factor.

Wasn't there another recent thread about a scientific study that found Reef Crystals to be the top salt? I think it had to do with MACNA or something.

I was using IO until a LFS did a group buy on Tropic Marin Pro. I will never use any other salt now. My coral growth, color and PE is better than ever.

If Anything Give There Web Sight A Look Over, Its A West Coast Company Alot Of Us On The East Dont Know About And Would You Have Tried Tropic Marin If It Were Not For The Group Buy???
You Tried Something New And It Worked It Can Still Get Better Not Perfect It Isnt The Ocean. Consider Trying This Salt The Price Is Very Reasonable To Include Shipping

Re: Best Salt Thread # 5598714351
I've used IO, Oceanic, TM Pro, and Seachem Reef. I like them all really. Whatever you use will end up most likely needing a boost of something in one area or another.

I'm not really sure why some people use capital letters and little to no punctuation. It makes for difficult reading.

CAPITAL LETTERS HELP DRAW PEOPLE'S ATTENTION TO THEIR POST, which in this case is someone trying to advertise the salt that his company sells.
He posts the EXACT same thing in other aquarium forums including: The Reef Tank Reefs.org and i'm sure many others too. just a commercial-interest post is what it is |

The last frag swap I attended was funny. 10 people showed up with huge IO buckets full of stuff.
A lot of experienced reefers use IO including Garf (the site that got so many people interested). |

Tropic Marin, still good, but?
I have to add a caveat to my recent endorsement of Tropic Marin. It could be some other variable, but my last batch of the reef mixture did not hold pH very well, and I had to diddle with carbonates a bit more than usual. Never had that problem before, but I really didn't do anything different than I have for years. Could be the mix, could be me. Anybody else have this challenge? Randy's Law: Nothing like endorsing a product to mess it up.

I have been using IO for about 5 years total and up until recently I had no major problems But the last bucket I got tested out the same as the previous batch so I did a 25 gallon w/c about a day later one coral started stn'ing from the tips down. I figured I would give it a week to see if it would stop and it did stn'ing and it did but it shown no sign of regeneration. One week later I decided to do another 25 Gallon w/c and one day later several corals looked stressed and the next day they were stn'ing even worse than the first episode. At that point I thought It has to be a bad batch of salt. So off to the LFS and came home with TMP. Mixed up 25gallons at 1.026 tested it 24 hours later came up with these #'s
PH=8.3 Temp=78 DKH=7.7 CA=430 NO3=0-.1 P04=.03-.1 All tests were from salifert kits So I did a w/c and the very next day the stning stopped and a few days later the corals are starting to recover. one week later I did another 25gallon w/c and every thing is starting to grow faster than they ever have. two sps's were hit hard so it will take some time for them to recover. I've only been using this brand salt since 11/18/06 and hopefully it dosn't show any long term affects.
