I get what you are saying but i would say these are one of the easiest fish to take care of but require more planning than most.

All you need is to throw a hang on fuge on the back fill it with rubble and then put some cheato on top. let it sit for 3-4 months and add your fish. After that it's brainless , you don't even have to feed them : )

It is really too bad that most fish stores wont tell you this information or at least tell you to pile some rubble in the corner.

Im not sure simply a HOB fuge would be enough :P But planning your tank with multiple havens for pods that the mandarin can't reach will at least assure that the mandarin cannot wipe the pod population out.

I am about to experiment with some Codium Taylorii in the main tank. It's a hard macroalgae that fish won't touch because it mimics a poisonous sponge. It also grows into a pourous honeycomb structure and looks great for displays. Right now my Amps and Copepods are all over it. I'm going to see if it can function as a pod nursery in the main tank which would be an extra boost to a fuge.
