Be careful with Modded Maxi 1200's

Hello,

Just figured i would let you guys in on what happened to me this morning..

Just installed 2 modded Maxi jet 1200s .. Oceanflo.com mods.. put in last week.

One of them was close to the top of the tank.. maybe 6 inches, blowing across some rocks.. well this morning my phone went off telling me the APC in the basement running the pumps lost power.

Go down stairs .. see my 65 gallon Sump empty.. look at display tank down 8 iches..

The maxi jet had fully popped the suction cups off the glass and was jammed between the rocks blasting out all the water like envinrude engine trimmed way up.

Done with these and switchin to an ocean motions.

Could have fried my G5 and both my return MAG 18s ...

So hopefully it was a freak accident and only happend to me!

using the magnet mounts may be the safest option.

I do not think is the mod but could have happened with any suction cups attached power head.
I have switched all my mounts to SureGrip Magnetic holders which not only are more reliable but make swiping the glass around the powerhead mount a lot easier.

not the mods fault. unfortunately its your fault for relying on suction cups. suction cups are never ever recommended for use within a tank to keep things on the glass.

Actually, when you buy the mod kit, the instructions tell you to not use the suction cups, because it will pop them off. It says you can either glue the rod that hangs over the tank lip, or buy the magnet holder.

wow. that's some flow you got there to shoot water out of the tank. i only have some seios right now (with the suction cups), but i'm using the glass lid, so this should keep my water in the tank.

I appologize for the rant.. i posted it right after i finished mopping up the mess on the hardwoods .. and thank God for GFCI plugs.. cause i probably would not have been able to post this i got zapped and popped one when i tried to get things running again.

I should have followed the directions .. i didn't realize they recommend not using the suction cups.. my bad.. .. tank looks better now.. guess i needed a good 90 gallon water change anyways. . Thanks to All.

Jim

Please don't think i was lecturing. I just think that you should try them again with the magnet holder. I'm very excited about them.

Suction Cups + Powerheads = Death & Frustration

I had suction cups come off and a powerhead blasted a frogspawn to death
