I was just wondering...
i have read in a few different threads that it is bad to move your sand from an old tank to a new one. Why is that? I actually did that a month or so ago when I changed my FOWLR tank from a 50 to a 65....

I moved all my old sand from my 55 to a 75. Had no problems whatsoever.

When we bought our tank used, we moved almost all of the sand and we're not having any problems to this point (almost 9 months later).

I think the idea of people saying its a bad idea is.... If you stir up sand that's been in a tank for 5 years without cleaning it first it will start a cycle or release toxins that will foul the tank. I would think that would be more of an issue with a DSB or Crushed Coral substrate.. I moved the stuff from my 65 to my 90 without issue..

Why would you rinse it? Seems to me you would rinse away all the life in the sb.

I moved the sand from my 30 into my 55 without problems, almost a year ago. I didn't rinse before I put the sand into the 55. I also didn't have a DSB at the time...I do now.
