Is this a GSP?
I've never seen a GSP with the little branches on the arms. If it's not, what is it? (and it looks green from farther away )

no it doesnt look like gsp to me...those have little bristles all over the polyps (the ones you pictured i mean) and the color is a bit different.
I cant think of the name right now, but i'll do a google search for a couple things and see if i'm right...

My money is on a Erythropodium sp. encrusting gorgonian. Or maybe a Corky Finger. A wider out picture would help.

nay on gsp again. They dont have the little bristles like that. well i think if you look under a microscope (or use a micro lense) you can see that they do, but with just a regular photo like that (not zoomed in 10x) you would not see them. You cant even see them on the gsp with a naked eye, so if you can see them on yours just by looking somewhat closely, then no its not gsp imo.

Not a chance! Look at the mat on that thing! I think it's GSP! Sometimes they get those tentacle-beasties when the individual fingers get long enough.

You might have a point there. I thought that was just coralline.

Those are star polyps I have some exactly like yours. They are a hint of green not as bright as the other star polyps. They do grow/spread on a purple mat though.

there are other types of star polyps too....gsp isnt the only one. So it may be another kind. And gsp isnt the only coral that grows that purple mat either.
