I used 6 - 65 watt PCs over my 75 for a couple years and every thing did pretty good, but then about 8 months ago I upgraded to 6 - 54 watt T5 ho bulbs with Icecap ballasts and reflectors and WOW! what a difference

I've since upgraded to T-5s, but PCs are going to support most of your soft corals, which can be quite colorful, and quite a few LPS as well. I kept candy canes and a favites with very good success. I also kept a hammer coral with mediocre success, but since it still hasn't shown much growth under T-5s, it's unlikely that was a lighting issue. Mushrooms can always be nice for some color as well as certain leathers, favia you can probably get away with, among many others. PCs aren't great, but as long as you realize your restrictions, they aren't bad either, especially for the price.

I have 2 pc's and 1 t5 over my 58--wish I had MH but I just can't afford them right now. However, I have some nice color in my tank--a gorgeous red meat coral (looks like a brain), a neon green open brain, red mushrooms, green mushrooms, a beautiful green pagoda cup, a frogspawn with neon green tips, and a huge bubble anemone. In my 29 I also have pc lighting and I have a pretty, bright yellow devil's hand, colorful zoos, green star polyps which are really green, and a small yellow leather and some other stuff. Undoubtedly you cannot get the awesome brightness with pc's and t5's like you can with MH, and the sps that require that type of lighting are like beautiful rainbows, but you can still find some pretty corals if you take your time and look! BTW, I also have a BRIGHT orange tree sponge which is very cool. He definitely makes the tank "POP" with color Good luck.

I have kept stuff under pcs for about 3 years and have noticed that they don't grow very fast. They look color wise like when I bought them out of a tank with mh's but don't seem to grow as fast. My ricordia hasn't grown in 3 years at all. Just stays the same. My trumpet grows relatively fast as well as xenia but zoo's and most other stuff is slow.
