Spatial orientation of MH single ended bulbs produces color changes

I originally had a 55g with a 400w 14k Hamilton that was a clear blue white , very appealing. When I started using it on my 150g I noticed all the color was lost, i thought the bulb lost its spectral output and was producing some sort of a color shift. This seemed odd as the bulb was only a few months old. I seldom used it as there were few corals at that part of the tank. Well after a few months of confusion I remebred that the metal the socket was located on was somewhat soft and so I proceded to bend it very slighly perhaps half an inch, well today I am very happy to say that the old color that made me fall for this bulb is back.

I am curious to know how many others have had this phenomenom occur.
