Current Aquapod as a QT tank?
Is this a crazy idea? I'm thinking of getting a nano tank like This as my quarantine tank...especially if I can find a good deal, like maybe an after christmas sale...by the time I buy a tank, filter and light won't I have nearly this much invested anyway?

typically people don't put the higher lighting and nicer filters on a QT tank since it's used just for QT purposes. An aquapod would work just fine, but a little expensive for use as a QT in my opinion. I prefer my 10g with normal output lighting and a sponge filter that I keep cycled in my sump until it's needed. But if you don't mind investing the money needed for an aquapod, or the fact that you would have to have something living in it permanently to keep it cycled, I guess it'll be fine. Not sure how well it would work but I guess you could always just use the old tank water you're pulling out of the display every week during water changes to keep the QT cycled, just water change on that as well and refill with "used tank water' instead. Does that sound feasable people?

as qt for coral, it's going to have to have "good" lighting though...right? a freshwater hood with normal flourescent tubes won't cut it?

True, corals do require higher lighting usually. But with an aquapod you're paying for more than jsut the lighting, you got filtering mechanism, and the "name brand" of course. If I need a better light on my QT it's cheaper to make a simple DIY fixture. This is all just my own opinions though, I'd prefer spending my hard earned cash on better equipment for the tank, since a QT doesn't have to be anything fancy and usually they get torn down when not in use. your call though, if you don't mind the money for one, it would make a very good QT.
