anemone stuck in rock?
ok, on the (bad) advice of a lfs (yes, i know, i know, i should have researched more...i just need help at this point, not lectures) i purchased a sea bae anemone for my 24 gallon. it moved around a lot, and then seemed to settle. in the meanwhile, i spoke with another guy at the lfs who said i never should have been told to buy it for less than a 75 gallon, and to bring it back in. so today i tried to take him out of the tank (wearing gloves) and he was attaced to a piece of LR. I put the piece back in for a minute, filled a bucket with about 2 gallons of tank water and then put the LR in there so i could try to get him off the rock while still submerged. but the anemone recoiled itself all the way into the rock and shriveled up. i left it in the bucket to see if he would come out. it's still in the bucket on the rock and it's not coming out. i'm afraid to put it back in the tank as i'm worried that maybe it didn't survive and i don't want to foul my water.
what do i do at this point? |

How long has the animal been in the bucket? If the temperature is still okay, and it hasn't been that long, I'd put the rock back into the tank. The rock and the anemone can be returned to the store at some point.

I have a lown only tank as one of my systems 29G with a RBTA, 2 full gronw clowns and a watchman goby with no problems. As long as you keep up on water changes, test the water at least weekly, have a good skimmer and lights it should not be a problem.
As Bertoni asked, how long has he been in the bucket? If you have a heater in with him and some circulation he can last a while (day or 2) if not I hope it has been less the a few hours. He should be fine, not dead, I would place the rock back into the display tank if you cannot heat and circulate the water in the bucket and monitor very closely, if he does not extend back out within a few hours he may be a goner and then remove the rock. The check your params, A, trite and trate to make sure you did not get a spike, but a few hours of time should not be enough for a dead nem to harm your water. Ron |
