Protein Skimmer for 65 gallon

I'm thinking about upgrading my current venturi skimmer on my 65 to something that might work more than 70% of the time. I'm looking at around $200...hopefully. What are the best models for the price and size of tank. My tank pretty heavily loaded and has been running over a year with this skimmer but i'd like to see some improvement. I also posted this in the equipment forum.

my suggestion would be an AquaC Remora. in your price range and would work great on a 65G. have a safe and Happy New Year!

I just ordered a euroreef rs80 for my 55 from premium aquatics. It was the promo deal and under $200. It's made from extruded acrylic instead of cell cast. This doesn't mean a lot to me, it stays in my sump and I don't look at it a lot. This skimmer will blow the remora out of the water.

Get the PCRPS-1000 model shown on this page and mod the pump with a meshwheel and you'll have the best skimmer you can get for around $200....

Not for $200 though- The G1 is $250...You would still need to mod the crap out of it to get strong skimming. The skimmer I mentioned about has all of the desireables done already (recirc, gatevalve) and just needs a meshwheel....You'd get Deltec performance out of that thing with the mesh....

If you want a hang on (don't know if you do) then look at the D&D marine typhoon, $68 at drfosters! A great skimmer for an awesome price! Built like a tank and it works at least as well, if not better, than a remora pro.

Yeah- Pretty much the same thing as the one above- Also a good one for the price. Be sure to get a recirculating model though...

I had a typhoon and it was junk. I might have had a unique experience but I took it back to the store and the owner of the store couldn't get it to skim. It makes bubbles like crazy but I couldn't get any skimmate. I tried every different setting I could. The only thing it would do is run over EVERYTIME the power went off and came back on or I turned it off for maintenance on it. Like I said my experience could be unique. I got a CSS and I love it. D&D makes another skimmer that someone bought at the same lfs and they loved it but it wasn't a typhoon.

I have the ER CR80 on my 65g--I would highly recommend it. I got it from PA when they had a special--$200 free shipping---the one they have now for $179 is the same, but extruded acrylic--no big deal--it's worth it. 9"x10" footprint
I have a remora and a Shcuran--no comparison to ER.

Bonsaii,
I only have one typhoon, and it produced skimmate from day one and was easy to work with. Maybe I have the odd skimmer. I just love the construction (built well) and the (for me) decent performance, especially for $68 from drfosters!!!
Has anyone else had a typhoon skimmer D&D marine, what do you think about its performance?

I have a coral life Super Skimmer. I seems to work well, though it is fussy a first and must be watched to prevent a water skimmate and overflow. It is best placed in a sump, but i used it as a HOB.

Kody I'm VERY happy that you have had a better experience than I did with the typhoon. I thought it would be a great skimmer by the construction and the bubbles it produced but no matter what I did it wouldn't produce skimmate. As a matter of fact I put my skilter back on it until I could get my CSS. Did you do any mods to yours?
