Well, I started with two heads of a branching hammer right after I set up my hex in 2002. Here's a pic in 2003 after it split to 4 heads (circled in yellow):
Here it is in early 2006, just before a complete tank meltdown: It was one of the few corals that survived. It lost about a third of it's heads. My friend and I then split the colony. He took half, I took half. Here it is in my tank now, with about 13 heads: It's a trouper that's been through hell. One of my favorite corals.

My frogspawn started out with 6 heads and now I'm at 16 now. That's about 2 year of growth but most of it has happened in the last year or so after I upgraded to MH.

How many heads did it have before the tank meltdown in the second pic? It grew really fast, how often was it getting new heads at what kind of rate are we talking? That is a really nice coral, I just ordered a small one.Do they get brown jelly disease?

You have to remember it grows exponentially, so 2 to 4 to 8 to 16...
It had about 20 heads before the meltdown. I've not seen aquacultured specimens get brown jelly, but I suppose it is possible. They grow faster when fed, but it is often tough to feed them...fish and shrimp will pick the food right out of their tentacles, even mouths.

Good pt. that is a very favorable growth rate. How hard would you say it is to keep them and get them to thrive?

Nothing special compared to other corals. Not too much flow (like SPS). My particular hammer liked the MH lighting. The torch I had did not, bleached, and died, so start your new coral at the bottom of the tank if you have MH.

Heres mine
Here it is not long after I bought it:
Here is a full tank shot which shows it in two large pieces. Before I accidently broke it in half while cleaning it had a total head size of around 12-14 inches. Each half has about a dozen heads:

Good job, keep the pics coming...
Do these corals suffer from BROWN JELLY disease, I often see torches with missing heads for instnace, is this amajor issue for all three of these corals? |

I cant tell how many heads it has, it never fully retracts... there's at least 7 as far as I can guess, it started with 3.
It also split off a baby Full tank shot with the hammer too... thats a ridge, it just keeps getting bigger |

I only occasionally feed them so I cant really say if some got more food than others.
They all divided once at more less the same time and now only one has divided again, mabey the others will still divide. It is at an angle in the tank so the lower heads would be shaded. >>> By the way the colour of yours is stunning |
