Suggestions for reef safe fish
I have two Maroon Clown fish, two Blue Hippo Tangs, a Royal Gramma and a Lawn Mower Blenny. I also have some Pulsing Xenia, Kenya Tree and Green Star Polyps. Is there a dwarf angel that is safe to keep in this tank? Also does anyone have any other suggestions of a reasonably hardy fish that would go well in this tank. The details of the tank itself are below in my signature.

You could probably do with 30 more pounds of rock, though if that refugium is doing it for you, bravo.
Angels are almost on a per specimen basis as to whether they'll pick at corals. I've had a wellbehaved coral beauty, in the past. I'd suggest maybe a flasher wrasse, Carpenters, maybe a trio of blue chromis.

If you dont have any clams you could try a flame angel. Kinda hit or miss if they are reef safe or not.

Hey Salt Lake!
Get a Sargassum Trigger. Reef safe and gets along with everyone. Robb

I have a few suggestions:
1) Longfin Bannerfish (Heniochus acuminatus). Really cool looking, and nice black and white color. 2) Orange Firefish (Nemateleotris magnifica) or my personal favourite... the Purple Firefish (Nemateleotris decora). If I can ever find a LFS that has one for sale, I will buy it. Only time I have ever seen one was in a show tank, and the guy wanted $100 + and extra $50 to "Get it out of there". Jerks. As for angles, I have heard that the Flame Angel (Centropyge loricula) can be reef safe, but as someone said before... It's kinda hit and miss with angels. Jon |

Well, thanks for all the suggestions. I will probably stay away from the Angels and look for some of your other ideas at the LFS.

Fairy Wrasse and Flasher Wrasse are both awesome. My new fav.
![]() I think that the royal gramma may not like them though...

I like my blackcap basslett, and he gets along fine with my royal gramma. What about a 6-line wrasse, or a scooter blenny, or a mandarinfish...

Hit or miss is definitely key with dwarf angels......I had a potters angel which did really well but lost it to a jumping incident. (Had the glass open for a feeding and went in the other room....jumped out and behind the tank) As long as you feed them well, more than likely they wont pick at your SPS......or at least that was my case.....

A school of anthias could be cool and would not put a huge strain on your 90 gallon. I would echo that comment that you may want to increase your live rock to at least 1 lb per gallon. Its is your first filtration system for keeping your reef clean.

Liverock is overrated. Your skimmer is your first line of filtration. Leaning heavily on liverock leads to saturated live rock, and algae. Theres a reason some people need to cook their rock: They've been leaning too heavily on it, and its full of phosphate. I've got a whole bunch of good sized fish in my 58, and have no algea with my 40 or so lbs of live rock. Less rock means better flow, which means better skimming.

Got an Angel
Well, with the assurance of the owner of our lfs I went ahead tried a Bicolor Pygmy Angel. It has been in my tank for over a week now and I have had no problems. Angel and Corals are all happy.

You can try a Millet Seed Butterfly. They are one of the safest butterflys for the reef tank. I have one and as long as he is not starving he doesn't bother anything. Your results may very.
Check it out. http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/p...cfm?pCatId=258 |

He is doing great. He has been eating flake food daily with the rest of the fish. I have also seen him eat some mysis shrimp and formula one which I feed occasionally. He has not bothered any of my corals or other fish still.
