dead fish

i bought a royal gramma two days ago and i was worried he was dead because i hadn't seen him since i put him in. today i came home to my pepp shrimp cleaning his skull. i was disappointed, all of my parameters are fine, my temp is 77-79, my corals, clowns, snails, etc. all looked happy and i acclimated him for 1 hour. is this just bad luck? i called the fish store and they just said "sorry, but that is part of the hobby." should i accept it as a part of the hobby or should i not shop at this store any more?

Hmmm, well sometimes it does just happen. But you should look for a store w/ a guarantee. They usually require a water sample, but at least you don't get stuck with a dead fish. I'll just say though, can you be more specific than parameters are fine, as in your exact levels.

Oh also, how did the fish look when you bought him? Was he eating? and is it possible you have a mantis shrimp in the tank?
