Is Carved Tufa good to use as base rock with LR?
I know it's expensive, I'm just curious. Here is a link of what type of thing I'm talking about.
http://www.petco.com/Shop/Product.as...familyID=7724& Thanks. I got a lot of rock questions today |

I would NOT use it....it is based on calcium carbonate deposit that forms by precipitation from bodies of water with a high dissolved calcium content.....
I would think it would really mess with your basic system over time..i.e. pH, kH, ca, etc..... |

Upon further research .....seems that quite a few people use this rock as base rock with no bad effects.....so, its up to you......

Yes, tufa is fine to use.
The shapes aren't very natural though, very generic one to two hole affairs, i've had a few in my time. If you want more rock on the cheap, why not look into making some? I will probably do this sometime this summer, i've seen some very cool concrete based rock! Good luck
