Freshwater Dip & Cyano
I thought I read somewhere that a 1 minute freshwater dip helps control cyano. I have a couple SPS corals (orange digi & branching monti) that have some Cyano on them. I've tried brushing it off and have them in direct flow but the Cyano keeps coming back. I've got phosban going in the sump and my phosphates are showing 0. Will it hurt to put these SPS corals in a freshwater dip for a mintue to clear up the Cyano?

Cyano for me was a temporary thing. When my tank was 3-4 months old, the stuff grew on just about anything. All I did was try to keep things clean and to wait it out. I'm in month 6 now and it's 1/100 the problem it was two months back.
I'd say to wait a bit before giving drastic measures a try. |

I'd probably dip them in saltwater and Maracyn rather than freshwater. The Maracyn should kill the cyano rapidly. I suspect it'll just return quickly, but you could try, I guess. An iodine dip might help, too. SeaChem's Reef Dip would be once choice.
