About how long does it take........
...for a new skimmer to start producing skimmate and showing that its doing its job? I just placed an Octopus Needlewheel 150 in my sump on a tank thats been running for over a year now. I have the water level set, in the skimmer, to where the bubbles and rising water reach about even to where the cap of the collection cup screws into the main body of the skimmer. Im sure I am jumping the gun but would like my worries stopped. Any suggestions or comments appreciated!

Be patient. If nothing happens in a couple of hours adjust your skimmer settings. Also, it sometimes takes a day or two to break-in a new skimmer.

If you break it in with a vinegar solution it should start skimming almost immediately. If you don't it will sometimes take up to a week.

I wouldn't worry yet, so long as it's producing bubbles. It sometimes takes quite a while for it to gunk up, so the bubbles have something to climb.

How do you break in a skimmer with a vinegar solution. I've heard of it before, but never actually found out how to do it.
