"Taiwan HQI" ballast, where can you buy?

Hi, I'm wanting to know if anyone knows where you can get the 400w Taiwan HQI ballasts that Sanjay references in most of his bulb studies.

Thanks,

Todd

Any further info?

I'm also in the market for a "Taiwan HQI ballast", but I can't find any retailers that sell it nor any site listing for All Seas.

Sanjay do you have any other info? I found references from others who own them so I know they are out there somewhere.

Thanks all!

Joe

Joe you've already got 2x1000w over your tank! What do you need 400w HQI for? Downsizing?

All seas doesn't have a site nor do they sell to the public.

Downsizing.

Yep, I finally had to pay the piper on my 1000 watt addicition. Although I never ran into a problem with water temperature because of my large basement sump, I heat stressed my acrylic top and got a crack. Fortunately, the crack was repairable, but the ultimate solution requires lowering the temperature of the top brace to prevent future problems.

I, also, have begun to believe that the combination 10K MH + actinic VHO is the best for color versus the 20K MH + actinic VHO so I am switching to 400 watt German 10K bulbs instead of the 20K 1000 watt American bulbs. (I ran 10Ks on my grow tank downstairs and got better colors than my display tank.)

If I ever get my dream tank of all glass I'll switch back to 1000 watts, but for now I'm back to standard.

Live and learn', heh!?

Anyways, Sanjay's data is pretty convincing that the "Taiwan HQI" ballast gives the best bang for the buck from a 400 watt bulb, but apparently finding this ballast is easier said than done. . .

Joe

P.S. Anybody wanna try a 1000 watt bulb and ballast? I happen to know where you can find some really cheap. . .

Joe,

Does your 1000W ballast run on 110 or 220 ? If its 110 you can consider donating it to the cause.. and I'll be happy to test some of the 100W lamps out there. :-)

Hey great idea Sanjay!

JPM, were you running 1000w, or, lower bulbs, on the growout tank?

You may have seen better color due to less light. IME.

Donations.

Sanjay,

I would be very excited to send you some bulbs and ballasts for testing. I have a 110 volt ballast and 2 1000 watt bulbs a 6.5K and a 20K both sold by Champion Lighting, but I also have a PFO BlueWave 220 volt ballast with a 20 amp power converter that drives my 1000 watt Ushio 10K bulb.

Drop me a line at JoePeck66@optonline.net with details, and I will gladly ship the whole sha-bang to ya.

Thanks for all your great work!

Joe

P.S. Anybody have a picture of a Taiwan HQI ballast?

P.P.S. My apologies to TexasTodd for hijacking his thread, and yes I was running 400 watt bulbs on my grow tank, so you could be right.

Sorry for bringing this one up on the table again but I wasn't able to find any retailer for the Taiwan ballasts. Any taker for a retailer in the US?

BTW does anybody know if PFO ballasts will work with 220V in Europe?

Thanks and cheers from Germany!

I believe you can buy them either 110 (US) or 220v Europe version.
