GSMguy, I've done that and am still getting drifting sand and tons of surface agitation, which I suppose is better for oxygenation but will increase evaporation.

Great tank, GSMguy. I don't know if it matters, but your sand appears to be a heavier grain than mine (sugar sized). Maybe that's part of my problem.

Southdown is awful if you have lots of flow. I run a pair of Maximods in my 58 (that each do about 3500gph) and I'm fine. I have heavier grained sand though.

Is your tank new? It will stay down better once it gets more life in it.

Be careful with your Nanostreams guys, the clips that attach them to the brackets are very brittle, and have gotten quite a reputation for breaking.

No, the tank's 8 or nine months old. I had blowing sand for a while with just my 400gph sump return, but it settled down. Now, with the 6025s, it's horrible.

Man, I really don't want to do that. Are you saying that will stop the drifting, or I should do it for another reason?

well fine sand is hard to maintain and can in some conditions build up toxins

well fine sand is hard to maintain and can in some conditions build up toxins and also it will help the sand from blowing around

I had to point mine up too, I get great flow and surface agitation with no sandstorms.

BTW, my substrate is CaribSea special grade reef sand, so it's kind of fine. The 100g tank is 18"x18"x72", so it isn't all that deep either.

Thanks guys, I have one turned off for now, and there's no drifting sand. I might leave it off for a while until I can play with it more.
